Desiata is inspired by documented historical events and originates from more than forty years of historical research.
The story began with a childhood memory. As a little girl, Antonella Marascia repeatedly heard a warning:"Don't end up like Desiata."
Nobody could explain who Desiata really was.
Decades later, the author began an extensive investigation through historical archives, newspapers, official records and cemetery documents.
The result is a literary novel where documentary research, oral tradition and fiction merge into a compelling narrative exploring how collective memory preserves forgotten lives.
